Bert and Patty Reslock have found a product that can resist the sun's heat, reduce their energy costs and survive three rounds of Mormon crickets.

In the past, the couple had to power wash and repaint their house after every bout of crickets.

But Bert Reslock attests to the quality of a building coating that he now wants to use to paint the inside of his house.

Enerchron coating reduces energy costs, acts as a class A fire retardant and outlasts latex paint, said inventor Rick Klimovich.

Klimovich has spent the last year moving his business, Helios Energy Products Inc., from Sacramento to Reno and said he is ready to roll out Enerchron in Northern Nevada.

"It's like saying you have invented a car that gets 300 miles to the gallon," Klimovich said, whose background is in quantum mechanics. "I have something that can cut your energy expenses by at least 50 percent. There's nothing else out there like that."

Enerchron's energy saving and thermal-control qualities makes it that much more appealing to the Reslocks.

"We don't have air conditioning in the summer and (Enerchron) keeps the house cooler," Bert Reslock said. The Reslocks have lived off the energy grid in Red Rock since 1992 and utilize solar power to run their house.

Plus, Enerchron is practically indestructible when applied correctly, he said.

"When the crickets come, our house looks like it was in the middle of a tobacco spitting contest," he said. "Usually power washing that off takes the paint off also. But we have power washed the house three times and it still looks great."

The fire retardant properties also are important to Reslock, who is a Reno Fire Department captain.

Enerchron acts like a paint and is applied like one, but is more technical. The material incorporates Du Pont KEVLAR fibers with a resin technology, but Klimovich won't reveal his trade secret.

He also isn't aggressive about marketing because the product speaks for itself, he said. Klimovich backs that with a 30-year warranty for interior use and 10, 20- and 30-year warranties for exterior use.

Garth Best, owner of Best Painting, has been applying Enerchron to a condominium complex in Sparks and said the cost is comparable with a quality paint job using traditional paint.

"When it was introduced to us, I was reasonably skeptical," Best said. "But I was so impressed with the demonstration.

"It's going to replace paint as we know it."

Best was so impressed with the drop in temperature in the condos after application that he is going to paint the inside of his painting van.

Enerchron can be used on a variety of surfaces for residential and industrial uses, including metal, concrete, woods, stucco and any potable, waste or sea water area.

Best said anyone can apply Enerchron as long as they follow the instructions, which include a couple of techniques to applying it correctly.

Also, Klimovich insists on three inspections to a paint project to ensure quality.

Greg Jepsen is owner of Statewide Termite and Pest Control Inc. in Sparks and did all three inspections for the condo project on Flat Car Drive in Sparks.

"Enerchron is in a class of its own," Jepsen said. "I do three different inspections to make sure the building is ready to be painting on and it is applied in the correct thickness.

"Nobody else does this."

Jepsen is going to replace the paint on his house with Enerchron because his two-year-old house already needs to be repainted.

"The stuff is just bulletproof," he said. "It's a little bit more labor intensive because of the care in applying it, but in the long run it saves money and time because you are not going to have huge customer service problems afterward."

With energy prices rising, Klimovich said Enerchron could benefit anyone wanting to save money.

"My goal with this is to give other people an all-in-one product to address all their needs," he said.
